The number of giant pandas in captivity worldwide reached 600. Compared with 2018, the number of captive giant pandas increased by 52, with a growth rate of 9.31%.

The number of captive giant pandas has reached a new high, and a healthy, dynamic and sustainable captive population has basically taken shape. On this basis, the research on the wild release of giant pandas to promote the rejuvenation of wild populations is also being carried out steadily. The research and breeding institutions of captive giant pandas, with chengdu research base of giant panda as the main body, have further promoted technological innovation, established the Key Laboratory of Conservation Biology of Endangered Wild Animals in Sichuan Province, established scientific research cooperation relations with dozens of international protection institutions and organizations, and accumulated nearly 100 national patents and major scientific and technological achievements.
